Privacy Policy

CellTracker's app does not transmit any of the collected data to our servers independently, but requires a manual upload action by the user. The application allows you to view and record data related to the cellular network. Each piece of data can then be uploaded to our website by the user, via a manually recorded CSV. The CSV contains only data about the connected cell tower and its operator, and the application does not store any sensitive user data such as IP, IMEI or other data that would allow user profiling. The track is linked to the user only at upload time, recognising them through authentication.

What information do we store?

  • Location correlated with cellular connectivity information (also in background if enabled)
  • Network information (MCC, MNC, LAC, CI, network type)
  • Identifier of the user who uploaded the track

How is the data transmitted?

The data is saved manually by the user in CSV format on their own device. The user can decide to keep it for personal use or to upload it (after registration) to our website.

What are the permissions requested by the application for?

  • 'make and manage phone calls' > This permission is required in order to obtain detailed network information (such as operator, network power)
  • 'device location' > It is needed in order to place the collected data on a map
  • 'background location' > Permission needed in order to map with the phone locked or the app not in use

Account

Our service does not require registration to view the collected data. If you wish to contribute to the mapping, registration is however required.

At the time of registration we collect the following data:

  • Name (not shown publicly)
  • Username
  • E-mail (used for user verification)
  • Password (encrypted and stored in database)

Cookie

This website uses exclusively technical cookies necessary for its operation, for which no consent is required under the applicable regulations (GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive). We do not use profiling, analytics or marketing cookies, nor any third-party tracking tools.

  • Session cookies — they keep the authenticated user session. They are deleted when the browser is closed or on logout.
  • CSRF cookies (XSRF-TOKEN) — they protect forms against Cross-Site Request Forgery attacks.

As these are technical cookies only, you can manage or delete them at any time through your browser settings; disabling session cookies will however prevent access to the reserved area.
